The new trailer for "Fighter II" has faced significant trolling from viewers for various reasons.
The first look at the sequel to the 2000 epic was unveiled last week, featuring stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Denzel Washington in action. However, the trailer has received thousands of dislikes along with its many likes, and there are several notable reasons for this backlash.
One major reason, according to comments, is that the trailer seemingly reveals many of the film's key elements. Another contentious point is the choice of music, specifically the use of "No Church In The Wild" by Jay-Z and Kanye West. Some viewers questioned the inclusion of a rap song in a movie set in the Roman Empire, with lyrics that mention "Tears on the mausoleum floor/Blood stains the Colosseum doors."
Furthermore, there are criticisms about Washington's New York accent in the film, even though most characters use the historically inaccurate English accent typically associated with ancient Rome. This has led to toxic and even racist comments regarding the casting of Washington.
"Fighter II" will see Ridley Scott return as director and will focus on an adult Lucius (Mescal), the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix's character Commodus in the first film.
According to the synopsis, "Fighter II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and revenge set in ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the death of the beloved hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical emperors who now rule Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to restore the glory of Rome to its people."
The trailer includes several major battle sequences, such as Mescal's character fighting a rhinoceros and a sea battle. Pascal recently spoke about filming the action sequences, admitting he would "rather be thrown from a building" than fight Mescal again.
